Shoonya Farms

Shoonya was founded in mid-2017 by Vaishavi, with the intention of increasing farmers' incomes and preserving the native Indian bovine breeds that are on the verge of extinction. A former Symetra Tour player, Vaishavi represented India in golf from 2000-2016. Winner of the Pakistan Ladies Open, she qualified for the Asian Games in Doha and the prestigious Duke of York tournament in Scotland. Vaishavi played for the Purdue Women's Team for 4 years before turning professional in 2013. Reaching the final stage of LPGA Q-School guaranteed her a spot on Tour for 2 years, after which she moved back to India. Always being passionate about health & lifestyle, Vaishavi then decided to pursue chemical- free, natural farming, because in her words, "What you eat is who you are, how you think and how you ultimately perform. As an athlete, nutrition has always been my topmost priority and I've made it my mission to provide pure, unadulterated and nutritious food to people.” These days most dairy farms in India rear European bred cows and if one keeps desi cows, people automatically assume it’s for charity. Vaishavi wanted to bring about a change in that sentiment. The first 3 years were spent in search of pure-bred, indigenous cows. Going from obscure villages to scattered farming communities, Vaishavi painstakingly combed through all the areas earmarked as home to our native cow breeds. Over the years, she successfully managed to gather high-pedigree, desi cows at her farm. Beneath all of this lies the underlying principle of doing things the right way. Of embracing a “Shoonya lifestyle”. Of supporting our native species of animals and plants. Of minimizing wastage. Of consuming mindfully - not just for taste, but for nourishment. The agriculture practiced at Shoonya is fashioned around a 'Natural Farming' concept, which involves utilizing desi-cow waste to enrich the soil. In a nutshell, this is an ecosystem where the farm is nourished from the by-products of cows and the cows are nourished from the products of the farm. We simply facilitate this cycle and enjoy the fruits of this complementary relationship. At Shoonya Farms in Greater Noida, you will find majestic Gir, Sahiwal, Tharparkar and Hariyanvi cows lovingly tending to their calves. Desi kadaknath chicken clucking around looking for food. Orchards and vegetables grown lovingly without a trace of chemicals. And if you dig up the soil, you might just be able to spot a few earthworms as well!
